I hope this post reaches you as this is my long overdue first attempt and the last lot of text was strangely swallowed!
I attended the Lauch Event and am currently going through the application process.
By way of introduction, my background is in psychodynamic social work in various roles including CAMHS, family placement and court related work as a Guardian and independent social worker. I moved from London to Wales about 6 years and am freelance. I undertake a limited amount of court related work and also therapeutic work/consultancy with children and their placements.
I have been organising a conference on behalf of Nagalro (organisation of independent social workers, mainly Guardians and former Guardians) entitled ‘Good Practice in Permanent Placements’ in Oxford on Monday 11th March, which I think will be of interest to Appcios members, especially those working with looked after and adopted children.
Speakers will be Prof Nina Biehal (research on outcomes in fostering and adoption), Rosemary Wolfson (on concurrent planning), Leslie Ironside (on the perspectives of children) and Jenny Sprince (supporting belonging and work with carers and the network). I am sure you will all be aware of the work of Leslie Ironside as well as Jenny’s.The conference will be chaired by District Judge Nick Crichton of the Inner London Family Proceedings Court.
These conferences have been a good way of bringing people from different professional backgrounds together and of bringing psychodynamic thinking into the more ‘mainstream’ legal and court related professional systems, where it has been greatly appreciated. We are delighted that Jenny will be able to speak.
